Administrative Fellowship Preceptor

Mr. Fred Slunecka, President and Chief Executive Officer, is the preceptor for the Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center administration fellowship. Mr. Slunecka is also a Regional President of Avera Health.

Mr. Slunecka received a B.S. in Political Science at the University of South Dakota and M.H.A. at the University of Minnesota. He worked at Avera McKennan from 1982 to 1985 as the Assistant Administrator and then as Executive Director of Avera Queen of Peace, located in Mitchell, South Dakota from 1985 to 1989. He became a Regional President of Avera Health in 1987 and has held that job in conjunction with assuming the duties as President and Chief Executive Officer of Avera McKennan in 1989.

Prior to joining Avera Health, he worked as the Administrative Assistant for Medical Staff Affairs and Administrative Assistant for Shared Services for Sentara in Norfolk, Virginia. Mr. Slunecka is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has been active in numerous community and professional Boards including ACHE, AHA Council of Metropolitan Hospitals and the Federal Commission on Systematic Interoperability.

Mr. Slunecka has a history of sponsoring administrative fellows. He and the Administrative Team at Avera McKennan are committed to active participation in the development of new talent in healthcare administration. Avera McKennan looks forward to again sponsoring a fellow in 2009-2010.
